A visit to the former US-casern produced some interesting sightings: Apart from my first singing Woodlark, I could observe 3 Wood Warblers and my first Common Swifts of the year. However the most interesting part is still not accessable for the public (the hills). I´m still wondering what´s going to happen to this part of the site, since there had been rumours, that an industrial park shall be built there. This evening I visited the "Luisenhain", a quite popular park in Bamberg. It is an important site for Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Pied Flycatchers and other scarce breeders. So I was quite astonished, that I could observe any of these species and take good pictures of them as well. Obviously all birds have adapted to the regular presence of humans. Whimbrel

The Whimbrel is in Franconia a rather scarce species only occurring during passage. Since one individual has been staying at Burgebrach for four days, I took the chance today. The bird could be seen next to two Lapwings and allowed my some superb views. Next stop were the ponds near "Schatzenhof" with the result of a Ruff and a Blue-headed Wagtail.
